Homework Assistance Yr10

Use the learning triangles placed in the front of your book to stimulate your responses to your chosen images. Look at the Representation triangle and answer the 3 questions at the far left; these will help you analyse effectively.

In the first picture Jennifer Anniston clearly has no makeup.  She's not in control of the image being presented and was not prepared for the photo being taken.  Her facial expression looks anxious and the mise-en-scene shows a side profile revealing a facial scar.  She has a plain white T shirt on.  In comparison the positive photo shows her wearing a beautiful feminine dress, full makeup with a happy smile on her face.  The clothes and makeup make her look like a Hollywood star; she's even wearing sparkly earrings, which are not there in the first photo.  The backdrop tells the audience that she is at an awards ceremony; clearly she has prepared well for this photo and is in control of the image she wants the audience to see.

The two photos represent Jennifer Anniston in completely different ways.  It makes you understand why celebrities want to be in control of the photos and images used by magazines and Internet companies.
